Healthy Foodie Holiday Gift Guide

DSC03107.JPG

The holidays are upon us and this year I’ve decided to buy gifts that will be used regularly, not just pretty things that will be taken out of the closet or off the shelf occasionally (I’ve been giving a lot of costume jewelry in recent years). It just so happens that I and many of the people in my life LOVE food and cooking. And most of them are very interested in eating fabulous food that is also healthy and nutritious. It’s funny how those two concepts go together for so many people, although that’s not to say we don’t also enjoy our indulgences!

Here are some gifts for those healthy foodies in your life that will be sure to be enjoyed almost as soon as they’re out of the box! Continue reading

Nut-Free Snacks for Back to School

back-to-school

Did you know that 1 in every 13 children has food allergies? That’s roughly two per classroom in the US. These include severe allergies to nuts, which can result in anaphylaxis and death if not treated. That’s why when one child has a severe nut allergy, their families aren’t the only ones affected. Their communities and their schools are also affected due to the risk of cross-contamination.  As a result, many schools are now nut-free – that means no more PB&J sandwiches, trail mix or honey-roasted peanuts in lunch boxes. But fear not, we’re here to help! Continue reading

Dedicated Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free in LA: Rising Hearts Bakery

RISING-HEARTS-1

Rising Hearts Bakery has been a trusted and delicious gluten-free bakery in the LA community before gluten-free became a catchphrase. Prior to being called Rising Hearts, the bakery used to be called The Sensitive Baker, and both names perfectly describe the care and diligence that goes into making this place such a paradise for those living with food intolerances, allergies and celiac disease. Gluten-Free Travel Tips

city-people-woman-street-large

Summer is coming up and that means summer vacations are approaching! I remember a time when traveling was 100% excitement and all that I needed to plan was the actual traveling. Then even with all the planning, sometimes things don’t go exactly the way I had hoped and improvisation is needed. In fact, improvisation and a positive attitude are always helpful, whether traveling or not.  Continue reading
